Strengths: Lego is a top brand in the market, known everywhere in the world .Every kid in the western world knows lego, owns some lego and wants some more lego. Lego kids already have (especially lego technics) can be used to extend basic mindstorms kit.
Weakenesses: High price, saturation in houses (having enough lego, want something new).
Mindstorms' main marketing focuses on building robots. Not how to program or develop technical skills but rather build robots, play with them and then break apart to build something different. Programming is just an addition to the robot, just to make it move so that you can play with it. So it is very consistent with other lego products where the main focus is to build&play.
